Nottinghamshire Information

The Trent & Mersey canal goes across country from Nottingham to the Preston Brook Tunnel just south of Manchester, the first long distance canal and full of interesting features which reflect its history.

Nottingham is closely associated with Robin Hood, and in the City you can visit Nottingham Castle at the heart of the Robin Hood legend or take a trip to the Sherwood Forest National nature reserve. The City was also famous for its Nottingham Lace.

Today enjoy the shopping in Nottingham - Nottingham has a reputation for independent shops, vintage fashion, big name retailers and lively markets , the compact city boasts pedestrianised streets and an excellent public transport system- the tramway which means it is easy to get around. Also visit the most complete Workhouse in existence at Southwell about 13 miles for the city, used to house the poor of the Victorian era, and see and hear the stories of those who lived and work there.
