Sterlingshire Information

Sterlingshire or the County of Stirling is in the eastern part of Scotland and is quite a small county covering an area of around 45 miles in length and about 19 miles in breadth. The county is diversified with mountains, hills and valleys and plains it is located at beginning of the Highland district, and the mountain of Ben-Lomond.

The Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal are both located within Sterlingshire giving narrow boating holiday guests an opportunity to explore Scotland in a completely different way. The Falkirk Wheel, one Scotland’s most recent attractions, has reconnected these two canals giving a direct link to both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Edinburgh stands on the banks of the Firth of Forth and been the capital of Scotland since 1437 and is home to the Scottish Parliament. A host of attractions can be found within the city including Our Dynamic Earth and the Scotch Whisky Experience. No visit to the city would be complete without a walk along the Royal Mile and this road runs between two of the main locations in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Abbey.

Scotland's second city also has much to offer the visitor, the city grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde to become one of the largest seaports in the United Kingdom. Throughout the city of Glasgow you will see many examples of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Mackintosh was born in Glasgow in 1868 and went on to become a world-renowned artist, architect and designer.
